PUBLICATION ETHICS AND PUBLICATION MALPRACTICE STATEMENT
Database Systems Journal is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in academic publishing. This Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement outlines our expectations and responsibilities for editors, reviewers, authors, and the publisher. Our guidelines are based on the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices.
1. Duties of Editors
- Fair and unbiased review: Editors will evaluate manuscripts based on their scientific merit, regardless of the authors' race, gender, nationality, religion, or other personal characteristics.
- Confidentiality: Editors will maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts during the review process.
- Conflict of interest: Editors will disclose any conflicts of interest and will not make decisions on manuscripts in which they have a personal or professional interest.
- Publication decisions: Editors will make publication decisions based on the journal's policies, the manuscript's relevance to the journal, and the manuscript's adherence to ethical research and publishing standards.
- Handling misconduct: Editors will take appropriate action if ethical concerns or potential misconduct are identified, following the COPE guidelines.
2. Duties of Reviewers
- Confidentiality: Reviewers will maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and will not discuss or share the content with others.
- Objectivity: Reviewers will provide objective, unbiased evaluations of the manuscripts based on scientific merit and relevance to the journal's scope.
- Timeliness: Reviewers will complete reviews within the agreed timeframe.
- Conflict of interest: Reviewers will disclose any conflicts of interest and will not review manuscripts in which they have a personal or professional interest.
3. Duties of Authors
- Originality: Authors will submit original work that has not been published elsewhere and is not under consideration for publication by another journal.
- Data integrity: Authors will ensure the accuracy and integrity of their research, providing access to data when appropriate.
- Authorship: Authors will list all individuals who made significant contributions to the research and manuscript, and will obtain written consent from all co-authors before submission.
- Acknowledgment of sources: Authors will properly cite all sources used in their research, including data, methods, and previous findings.
- Conflict of interest: Authors will disclose any financial or other conflicts of interest that could influence the interpretation of their work.
- Reporting ethical concerns: Authors will report any ethical concerns related to their research, such as the use of human or animal subjects and the proper handling of sensitive data.
4. Duties of the Publisher
- Supporting ethical standards: The publisher will support the journal's editors in handling ethical concerns or potential misconduct, following the COPE guidelines.
- Accessibility: The publisher will ensure that published articles are accessible to the academic community and general public.
- Preservation: The publisher will ensure the long-term preservation of published articles in digital repositories.
By submitting a manuscript to Database Systems Journal, all authors, editors, and reviewers agree to abide by this Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement. Any breaches of these guidelines may result in the retraction of published articles and potential sanctions against the individuals involved.
